Happy Monday

Good Monday Morning,

Here we go! Another great week of teaching and learning is ahead of us.

Marzano Instructional Framework
Last week, I thoroughly enjoyed making some instructional rounds to witness excellent teaching and learning. As I walk through classrooms this week, I will be looking for and documenting evidence for Criterion 2.2; conducting practicing and deepening lessons. Please review the rubric chart below. For additional information on the Marzano Instructional Framework visit:
As a team, we will be exploring the Marzano Framework on some of our PD sessions.

Solution Room
Amy Buche has taken on the lead in managing our solution room from all K-8 lunches. When students visit the solution rooms, she is helping them accept responsibility for the issue/harm they received a referral and work towards apologies and restitution. Additionally, I have been working with several students and parents to develop contracts and incentives to help our students succeed. I look forward to sharing our progress with you in a staff meeting.

MAP Testing
The K-5 classes are rostered and ready to take the NWEA's MAP assessment. Please work with your team to schedule your testing. Would you please let Tammy, Mike A., Mary, and myself know of your testing time before testing? Additionally, please hang a testing sign on your classroom door to help eliminate unneeded interruptions.

K-8 Student Support Services.
Today, Todd, Emily, and I will be interviewing some individuals for a part-time counseling position in the K-8 building. It has been a collaborative process with Whitworth to find some extra help. I am very optimistic. Additionally, we are working with the ESD to try to fill our Student Assistant Profession position. I am not as optimistic about finding someone for this position, as there is a significant shortage of professionals in the student support service category...and the teacher category! Our K-1 position went unfilled.

PBIS
Thank you for your active participation in Friday's professional development. I am looking forward to connecting with Dr. Simonsen again. In the meantime, I would love to have a PBIS breakfast meeting to explore and enhance our implementation. If available, please join me at 7 AM on Wednesday morning.

Happy Monday!

 Good Monday Morning,

I hope that everyone had a restful weekend! Last week was certainly a busy week. Thank you for all your help.

Last week, I witnessed our first signs of fall. I was the birds started to migrate, and deciduous trees and shrubs began to change color. Typically, the transition from summer to fall also highlights greater efficiency in the school as students generally have started to settle into routines and begin to focus on the new teaching and learning.

Our start this school year has significantly been disrupted by COVID, class sizes, and limited staffing. COVID continues to be a challenge for us. Thank you to everyone who helped review and revise our Remote Learning 2.0 plan on Friday. The district is working on a grant to help hire a COVID coordinator to oversee testing, administration of testing procedures, and reporting.

Today, the second kindergarten classroom will be opening. I called all the family with the good news about the new class. This new classroom caused a bit of a domino effect as three classrooms needed to be moved. This change kept the Kindergratedn room in the primary hall, moved Mr. Watson's 2nd-grade room to the intermediate hall, and moved art back to the middle school hall. Thank you to all who helped with this transition.

We struggle to find substitute teachers, which caused us to utilize emergency subs, who tend to be our paraeducators. Please keep a close eye on classrooms with substitute teachers, and know that when our paras are needed to cover any unfilled certificated position, that we may need a bit of help at recess times.
