Welcome back to school! I hope you each had a refreshing and meaningful spring break. This season of renewal always brings a sense of hope, and I truly enjoy watching the world around us wake up with color and warmth.
For me, this break held both joy and deep reflection. I spent much of the week caring for my mother-in-law, who recently fell and broke her hip, and supporting my grandmother, who suffered a severe stroke just before the break. Today, I am taking a bereavement day to attend my grandmother's graveside service and say a final goodbye.
My grandmother was the most influential person in my life. Her unwavering faith, joyful spirit, and boundless love shaped me in countless ways. I had the gift of being with her shortly before she passed, and I’m looking forward to celebrating her incredible life with friends and family at her memorial in May.
Thank you for the kindness and support you’ve offered me—it truly means a lot. I’ll be back tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing all of you then.
In the meantime, Matt (aka El' Cap) will be holding things down in the K-8 building today. Thank you for all that you do to make our school such a supportive, joyful, and caring place for our students and one another.
With much appreciation,
Brett

Securing the Building
Thank you for helping to keep our school safe and secure. Each day, it’s essential that we double-check our doors and windows before leaving. Recently, the front doors and office have been left ajar after hours. Please make sure:
Your classroom door and windows are closed and locked
The main exterior door is securely latched when you leave
The front office remains closed and inaccessible outside of school hours
Your attention to this helps us protect our space and the resources inside it. I truly appreciate your help in keeping Springdale safe and secure for all.
Scholastic Book Fair – A Huge Success!
A big shoutout to Ms. Gearhart for her amazing work organizing this spring’s Scholastic Book Fair! It’s been wonderful to see students so excited about books—and thanks to all of you for encouraging them to visit and explore.
I’m thrilled to share that we exceeded the minimum requirement to transition from Scholastic Dollars to real U.S. currency, which means the school will receive approximately 25% of total sales back as a donation—what a win!
Thank you also to Mrs. Ashbrook for your help supporting students and managing the event. The book fair will continue to be open this Wednesday and Thursday.
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments
State testing begins May 5, and we’re gearing up to support our students with confidence and calm. This Friday, we’ll review our testing procedures, calendar, and complete the required Test Administrator Training.
Please continue to support your students by integrating Interim Assessments (Smarter Balanced Portal) and Smarter Balanced sample questions into your lessons. Helping students engage with the format regularly will remove some of the stress and empower them to show what they know.
Let’s remind our students that this is not a test to fear, but an opportunity to celebrate their growth and hard work. Thank you for all you’re doing to support them.
MWHS FFA School & Community Carnival
Today, students from the high school will be stopping by to invite staff to support the FFA Carnival—a beloved community event full of games, food, and fun for all ages.
Please help spread the word and encourage your students and families to attend. Events like this help strengthen the connection between our school and the wider community, and your support means the world.
Thank you in advance for your participation—we’ll be flexing our LID day to support staff who give extra time for this event. Let’s show up strong and have some fun!
