K8 Memo

This is always an exciting week!  We certainly have lots of activities planned.  Please do your best to maximize your classroom time.  If you are hosting a classroom party, keep it on Thursday.

Our Staff Christmas luncheon will be this Wednesday!   Please be sure to check your stockings too!

I look forward to seeing the great festive activities this week.

Lock-Down Drill

Lockdown: A lockdown is called if there is a threat to those on our campus within or near the school boundaries. In the case of a lockdown situation, playground and hallways are evacuated into appropriate classrooms, all exterior and classroom doors are then immediately locked, blinds are pulled, lights are turned off, and all students, staff, volunteers, and visitors are hidden in stillness and silence.

This week we will have a lockdown drill on Tuesday at 1:00 PM.  Please see the detailed email or this link.

Nurse Sherri Report

As we approach the winter months and the holidays, I wanted to remind you to please keep your students home if they are not feeling well, especially if they have a fever. They need to be fever free without any fever-reducing medications, vomit, and diarrhea for 24 hours before sending them back to school.

We are isolating for 5 days if a person is presenting any COVID symptoms: fever (≥100.4°F) or chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell, cough (new, changed, or worsening), nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, fatigue, sore throat, congestion or runny nose.

If symptoms have improved and they have a negative test or an alternative diagnosis from their doctor, they can return to school before the 5 days. (please contact the school for guidance)  We are starting to see COVID resurface again this season. There have been minimal cases so far and we need your help to keep these numbers low.

Influenza(Flu), COVID, RSV, Strep Throat, Stomach Flu, and Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease are going around this season.  I am here for you and your students, please contact the school or me if you have any questions or concerns.

Washing hands is the #1 way to prevent illness. Here are hand washing steps to practice with your Children/students. Click the link to watch a Brain Pop video about washing your hands.

--Teach Students the Right Way to Wash Hands

  • Wet hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), and apply plain fragrance-free soap.

  • Lather hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to lather the backs of hands, between fingers, and under nails. The area under the fingernails typically has the largest concentration of germs on the hand and is the most difficult to clean.

  • Scrub hands for at least 20 seconds. Use handwashing songs, such as CDC's Happy Handwashing Song, to encourage complete handwashing.

  • Rinse hands well under clean, running water.

  • Dry hands using a clean towel then turn off the tap.
