Any student who leaves the classroom must have a pink Charger Hall Pass!

The start of the 2023-2024 school year is just two days away.  It is exciting to see our building and individual classrooms come together for our students.  As we embark on a new school year, we have the opportunity to set clear expectations and routines with our students.  I appreciate your dedication to collaborating to create the following building-wide commitments:

  • We will use positive words, tones, and actions to promote active learning, a sense of community, and self-discipline so that we can continue to achieve meaningful goals.

  • We promise to provide a fun, safe, and engaging learning environment where we will validate and celebrate student success (regularly).

I truly believe that our students will have positive responses to our intentional words and actions.   Thank you for all you do for our students and school.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a joy-filled start to our new school year.

Points of Interest

Lunch Codes

The office will be providing you with a classroom roster that includes your student's cafeteria codes.  All students are expected to enter their lunch code into the cafeteria computer system, of course, our primary students will need a little help.  Please review the Meal Service Schedule as needed.

Building Schedule

The building schedule has come together exceptionally well this year.  I greatly appreciate all teachers spreading out their instructional time.  This is exceptionally helpful to Mary as she supports students receiving services and to Diane and the MTSS team as they seek to provide tiered support. On the ‘Instructional View’ tabs, you will notice that the intervention times are blocked at the end of the day, we may need to make some adjustments to make sure all students are receiving the needed supports during intervention time.  Printed copies of the schedule are available in the office or online at: Building Schedule

Discipline Procedures

Our discipline procedure is outlined in our staff handbook: see Discipline Procedures.  A minor referral procedure and online form have been added to help monitor classroom-managed behaviors.

  • Link: Minor referral form (tinyurl.com/sk823minor)

  • All completed Minor Referrals will be emailed to each respondent and saved to a building database to track the minor referrals

  • Three Minor Referrals will result in the teacher’s ability to complete an Office Referral.  Office Referrals are completed on printed forms or Skyward.

  • All minor referrals must include parent contact.

Please see Matt or myself if you have any questions.  Matt will be connecting with teaching teams to help them learn how to submit Office Referrals on Skyward. Please review the PBIS Classroom Managed vs. Office Managed Behaviors flowchart.  I greatly appreciate everyone’s help in guiding our students.

The Lighthouse Effect

Light House Share Out: Author Steve Pemberton

“The lighthouse effect is the simple idea that any of us can pause and change the life of another. And that our own lives are altered and transformed by the seemingly ordinary people who come along and touch our lives at just the right time.

The humble gestures of kindness that change the course of our lives can shift the course for America too. With a unique vision for building up individuals and communities and restoring trust, The Lighthouse Effect opens your eyes to those who are quietly heroic.”

How can we as individuals, teams, and a school shine a light on our student's futures?

K8 Staff Memo

Good Monday Evening!

The last of our summer break days look like they will not disappoint.  The heat has been turned on, and it will get hot over the next few days.  I hope an afternoon on the water is in the works for you!

Building Update

It was great connecting with many of you today as you were in and out of the building.  The school is coming together as the maintenance and custodial staff have dedicated a tremendous amount of time to our classrooms and halls.  Our facility is shining with nicely polished floors and freshly painted walls.  You will also see new thermostats in the classrooms and cameras in our halls.  Please give this team some positive praise for all they have done!

Warm Welcomes

I am excited to welcome several new staff to our building.

Mr. Matt McLain is joining our secondary team as the dean of students.  Many of you met him last spring.  He will be helping with our attendance board and secondary behaviors.  He spent many years in the Chewelah School District before becoming an administrator in Hunters and Roselia.

Mr. Franklin 'Troy' Rux will be joining the middle school team as the 7th and 8th-grade math teacher.  He was raised in Reardan and holds a great appreciation for the rural lifestyle.  His educational career has led him through several public school districts and higher educational institutions.  He is a true mathematician who is excited to connect with our students.

Mrs. Bailey Perkins is joining our team as the office manager, as Tammy has moved into a central office position.  Bailey comes to us from the outside of the educational world, where she has worked for the last 8 years as the office manager at Body by Scotty in Post Falls.  She lives just down the road and has three children in our school system.  She is excited to join our learning community and is eager to become a valued and trusted team member.

Finally, this afternoon an invitation to join our teaching staff as the K8 art teacher has been extended to Ms. Maris Hart.  Ms. Hart has her BA in K-8 Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology.  She recently completed her masters in Mental Health and Wellness and is eager to combine Social-Emotional learning into her art lessons.  She has previously worked at the Corbin Art Center and the Oroville School District as a first-grade teacher.

Please be sure to extend a warm welcome to each of these individuals.  This week we will be hiring some additional support staff.  If you know of anyone looking for a job, please encourage them to apply.

Next Week's Staff Days

Monday, August 21st, is our certificated staff's building day, where we will review our school improvement plan, school year theme, handbooks, PLCs, PBIS, and more.  A detailed agenda will be sent out for this day.  Would someone like to volunteer their classroom to host this day?

Tuesday, August 23rd, is our All Staff Breakfast, where we will gear up for the great school year ahead of us!   Please meet in the cafeteria at 8:00 AM

Wednesday, August 23rd, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Charger Community Block Party: We're kicking off the 2023- 2024 school year with a grand celebration! Join us for a fun-filled evening of family, food, and entertainment.  Please help spread the word!

Teacher-Directed Days are scheduled for August 23rd - 25th.  These three days are dedicated to setting up your classrooms, lesson planning, and preparing for the first day of school. You have the option to complete these three days either the week before or during the designated calendar days.

I look forward to connecting with you are you return to school!  See you soon.
