Monday Memo

Good Monday Morning!

As I was walking down the Middle School hall, I was excited to see the following bulletin board with the quote, "Wherever life takes you, walk proud," by R. Stacey LaForme, the elected Chief of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation in Canada.

I love how Ms. Smith use this quote in her teaching and then had students color tennis shoes to build the bulletin board! Great Move!

State Testing

This last week the 4th-8th grade completed their state testing. We ran into some tech issues with the elementary laptops; however, the MS Chromebooks worked quite well. Much appreciation goes to Mike for his quick response and assistance with the technical issues. Thank you. Over the next two weeks, teachers will be scheduling make-up testing for those who missed it.

Attendance

We continue to have a high attendance issue. Several teachers shared names and attendance concerns with me via email. I will personally be reaching out to those families to see how we can help their children attend school regularly. Please reach out to the parents of your students who are missing school.

Building Leadership Team

The Building Leadership Team will be meeting this Tuesday after school. The goal of this team is to have hall representatives to help navigate initiatives, projects, and concerns. Tomorrow we will discuss Staff Meeting, Work Day(7.5 hour), 4-Day Week, PBIS:SWIS Data/Handbook, School Shirts, Remote Learning 2.0.

Transitions Help: Recess and Lunch

We are seeing much better behaviors in our transitions times; however, we still have work to do in that area. Teachers, please help your students transition by walking with them to lunch and reviewing the 4 Star Line expectations.

Camper of the Month Assembly

Please be sure to select two students for the Camper of the Month...one for Excellence and one for Growth! Additionally, be sure to invite parents to attend the conference and get your 'L'li Camper Tent' from the office to write your encouraging message. All tents need to be returned to the office by Monday, Nov 1, 2021.

Job Postings

We have several open job postings: custodial, bus driver(paid training provided), and paraeducators. Would you please encourage individuals to apply?

Have a great week, and seek opportunities to share your care

Monday Memo

Happy Monday Morning,

What a lovely fall weekend. It seems like the race is on to get ready for winter; roadwork, firewood, and outbuilding work were my priorities over the weekend. I also enjoyed several great hikes. I hope that everyone found some time to rest and relax over the last two days.

Last week was sure a busy week. I am thankful for the three-day weekend before us.  Let's have a great week!

COVID Report

This week we continue to have several students out of school due to COVID. Please be sure to create homework packets and contact parents if you have students out on quarantine or isolation. One of our top district goals is to build caring and supportive connections with all families and students in quarantine or isolation.

State Vaccination Mandate

October 18th is the deadline for the state vaccination mandate.  Our district's upcoming due dates include the medical exemption by October 4th, the religious by October 12th, and verification of vaccination by October 12th.

Homework Folder - ACTION NEEDED

At our staff meeting on Friday, we talked about having a master homework packet for each grade level in the office. This could be compared to having an emergency sub plan ready. Would you please review your curriculum and standards and create a master packet for five days of activities for the four core subjects of each grade level.

Strategies to help could include:

  • Pulling some intervention lessons from Wonders

  • Gathering additional practice sheets from Eureka or illustrative mathematics
  • Printing off an unassigned power focus from Summit
  • Picking a lesson or activity from an old springboard workbook.

Kitchen Help

Thank you to all the individuals who have stepped forward to ensure that our food service program continues to stay afloat! This will be another busy week in the kitchen. Please give a big thank you to Mel, Bea, Tammy, Christine, Todd, Sham, and all the other individuals who are stepping forward to help. THANK YOU!

New Enrollments

We have eight, possibly nine, students enrolling this week. Please give them a heartfelt welcome and try to reach out to parents.

PBIS

Friday's breakfast meeting was a great success. As we relaunch PBIS, our first goal is to review and revise the student handbooks and then present them to all students by the third week of October.

We will also be:

  • Reviewing previous PBIS action plan
  • Establishing playground zones
  • Shareouting and using the referral form
  • Creating hall signs
  • Attending the January PBIS Training

State Testing

Starting next week, we will start administering the Smarter Balanced ELA and math in grades 4–8. The WCAS will be administered in the 6th grade.  I'll be meeting with our new teachers to review the testing protocols.  Additionally, Mike will check to make sure our devices and network are ready for testing.

You can learn more about state testing at:

Testing Schedule

Rural Alliance Principal Co-Hort
It was great to do some instructional rounds with Michelle Kuhn's site visit last Thursday.  She was very complementary to the teachings and learning that we observed.  This next Sunday to Tuesday, I will be in Chelan for a cohort meeting.

Have a great week and seek opportunities to share your care!
