Monday Evening Memo

Wow, what a start to the week.  I appreciate all the extra help with some of the challenges we had today.  Thank you!

Parent-Teacher Conference

I am looking forward to seeing parents in our hall this week. I look forward to seeing the materials and artifacts selected to share with parents. Please let me know if there are any conferences that you would like me to attend.

Parent Survey

During conferences, we will have several Chromebooks set out for parents to complete the CEE ESS Survey for our strategic planning.  Please encourage all families to complete this survey.

Project CLEAR

Just a reminder that CLEAR will be available Tuesday for consultations on campus. Sign up sheet here for staff members:

PBIS Conference

As we return from Spring Break, Diane, Darci, Harmony, Katt, and I will head to Tacoma for the State's PBIS Conference. In addition to the subs, we have the following help lined up:

- Bryce will be in all week.

- Angie Rose will be set up in Katt's room.

- Matt Cobb will be helping with student issues.

We are covered with subs, but I know that things may still be tight and challenging. I appreciate everyone working together to help cover duties.

Monday Memo

 Good Monday Morning,

Yesterday was sure a nice first day of spring.  As I was outside working in the yard, it seemed like things were greening up right before my eyes.  I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air and sun!

Spring Break

We have two full weeks before Springbreak.  For many of us, we are looking forward to some time to rest and be with our family; however, for some of our students, the anticipation of spring break will provoke anxiety and concern.  Each and every day, you are the consistent support and nurturer our students.  The break will be hard for some of our most fragile students…please give them a bit of extra support!

Mighty Microgreens Class Presentation

On March 30th, the cafeteria will be serving sandwiches with Microgreens from a local farm, Mighty Microgreens. Seth, from the farm, is interested in coming in and teaching an elementary class about microgreens and how they grow.  Please connect with Cassandra if you would be interested in having Seth share in your class.

Intercom System

Today at 8:35 AM will be our first all-school announcement.  This will include a brief welcome and flag salute.

Playground Zones

Please be sure to review the playground zones.  Some smaller posters will be created with the zones.

Classroom Expectations for Rules and Procedures

On Friday, we discussed behavior plans and discipline.  Below is Marazon's Innovative description for establishing classroom routines.  See the other descriptions at this Marzano Link.

Friday's PD Schedule

Please use the first hour of PD to plan and prepare for parent-teacher conferences.  The second hour is team collab time!

Banana Split Parties

It has been loads of fun connecting with your class with the Banana Splits.  Please be sure to schedule your party once the class earns their tickets.

Monday Memo

Good Monday Morning.  I hope that everyone had a wonderful and relaxing weekend.  Sunday afternoon, I headed to the Rural Alliance Principal conference in Spokane.  I will be attending this conference over the next two days.  While I am out, Matt Cobb and Mary will be helping in my absence.  Bryce will be available to help today too!

Mask Mandate Lifted

Today, students will come to school for the first time since March of 2020 without the mask requirement! We are looking forward to seeing our students smiling faces!

It is certainly excited to see this step towards normalcy; however, we know that some continue to have COVID concerns as they have individuals within their home or family that may be immunocompromised.

Some staff and students may continue to wear masks. We desire to continue to maintain a safe and healthy learning community, and support the personal choice to wear masks!

Learn more about how MWSD has updated our COVID policy at our school website.

New Enrollments

We do expect a slight uptick in our enrollment as the mask mandate has been lifted.  So, far we have two families enrolling this week.

PA System

I am excited to see our PA system getting back online. Once it is fully operational, we will start doing the flag salute each morning at 8:30! I'll initially start it off and then get some students to help!

PBIS

It is exciting to see the classrooms earn their PBIS Classroom Party!  Today, Bryce will be delivering banana splits to a few classrooms.  Then we will be doing additional rounds on Wednesday and Thursday.  What time works best for your classroom party? Please be sure to schedule your party with me.  I am looking forward to awarding your class!

I am going to be stopping by Costco on Tuesday to get the requested individual classroom rewards.  Please be sure to share any additional requests with Tammy.  She will be creating the Amazon order early this week.

MAP Data Reports

Do you need help accessing your classroom's MAP data?  Please join me for a Reports Workshop on Wednesday at 3:30 PM to review how to log into NWEA and access reports.  Let's meet in the Basecamp room in the middle school hall.  Additionally, NWEA has loads of professional learning resources at: https://www.nwea.org/professional-learning-overview/.

Coach Vince

Coach Vince Lombardi is not the only great Coach Vince!  I am excited to have the wonderful Coach Vince Songayloon campus this Thursday and then again on March 23rd.  Mr. Songaylo will be meeting with individuals to explore MAP data.  Here is a link to the Data Refection form that will be used for the data conversation.  Please explore the first two pages prior to meeting with Vince.

Fire Drill Report

Great job with the fire drill.

We had our entire building exited at 1:15 minutes and then had the building searched in 3 minutes and 20 seconds.  Our drill ended with all kids back into the school at 6:50.72 minutes!

Thank you!

Brett

Monday Memo

PBIS Incentives

Individual Award: Please meet with your class to discuss what additional incentives you would like to add to your individual awards. Please share your items with Tammy; she will be completing a purchase order for us. Each class has a budget of $30.

Class Award: Some classes are getting close to the 150 charger card goal. Please be sure to schedule your Banana Split Party with me. I'll be sure to have the party cart ready with ice cream, bananas, and chocolate sauce.

Conference Scheduling @ Friday PD Schedule

March 11th is our 3rd scheduled state-funded professional development day. Classified staff does not work this day. In the first hour, the elementary will be scheduling conferences; all K-5 staff need to be present with your class rosters. We will meet in Jaymi's room. Then in the afternoon, the middle school will coordinate schedules to align with the elementary's calendar in Mrs. Moss's classroom.

Remember, this is a required day for certificated staff members.

The tentative agenda includes:

8:00 - 9:00, K-5 Conference Scheduling (Jaymi's Room) / MS Team Collaboration

9:00 - 12:00, MW Strategic Planning

12:00 - 1:00, Lunch

1:00 - 2:00, Project CLEAR, Module #6

2:00 - 3:00, K-5 Team Collaboration Time / MS Conference Scheduling (Moss's Room)

Just as a reminder, The Project CLEAR Consultants will be available throughout the day for Optional Consultation Time.

Mask Optional Status

Beginning Monday, March 14th, Mary Walker School District will be moving to a Mask Optional Status. We anticipate the new WA St. DOH guidelines for schools to be released today. Additional updates and information will be provided as we move to this next stage.

Trivia Question

Chocolate is the prize!

  1. What are the names of the school districts that border MWSD?

  2. What is the distance from the northern border to the southern bord of Mary Walker School District?

In the Classroom This Week

During this week's classroom observation, I will be looking for how teachers adapt or create new strategies to meet the specific needs of students whom the typical application of strategies does not produce the desired effect.

PA System Install

This Friday, Intrigue Communications will be on campus to update and install our PA system. Not sure how the system testing will go. I appreciate your patience.
