K8 Weekly Memo

Happy MonTuesday! I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend enjoying the last few days of summer.  I thoroughly enjoyed the start of our school year and greatly appreciate everyone's commitment to our students.  Thank you for taking the extra time to help establish our routines and procedures.  Please keep to our schedule…it works.  Today is the first day of school for our P-K and kindergarten students… let's give them a warm welcome.  Today's PLC is our first staff meeting.  We will review our schedule and routines.

Let's make it a great week!

Good Reads for building learning culture in the classroom…

Classroom games aren't only a fun addition to lesson plans but they can also help teachers form better relationships with their students … Read More

Character Strong's activity library has a great collections of engaging activities that will help build community and engagement in your classroom.  These activities are short and efficient, yet powerful tools!  Please explore them.

Points of Interest

Lesson Plans - ACTION NEEDED

How are your lesson plans coming along?  Please be sure to have them available on your desk for me to review on my walkthroughs this week.  Additionally, all sub folders need to be completed by Thursday.

K-5 Prep - ACTION NEEDED

I need your help in establishing a routine around your prep period/specialist time.  Please deliver and pickup your students at their special time.   All teachers need to walk their students to art, PE, or recess to start their preparation period.  Once your class arrives, your 45-minute prep begins.  THEN, be sure to pick up your class t the correct time.  Please do not just release them from your class.  As we make sure all areas are properly supervised and that transitions are efficient, then the para team will start helping with the transitions. We can not take shortcuts here, our classes must be properly supervised at all times.

Character Strong/Purposeful People - ACTION NEEDED

This week all classes should start their implementation of CS/PP lessons. I know that all of us agree that students need to build social and emotional skills, develop character, and strengthen educator-student relationships.  I feel this is equally important to the academic success we are working on.  Please be sure to start your lessons this week. Here is a Character Dare that is just good business!

Fall Picture Day

Leo's will be here on Monday, September 18th for individual pictures and sports pictures later in the afternoon.

Activity Bus

Our Activity Buses will kick off today with two routes, one serving the North and the other the South. This initiative is designed to create more opportunities for our students to get involved in athletics, extracurricular activities, after-school academic support, clubs, and behavioral interventions. MTSS Corner

After a fair amount of stress and frustration, FastBridge rosters are ready for testing week! I emailed staff last week with testing info and benchmark scores. I will deliver test tickets to 2nd-5th grade teachers first thing Tuesday morning. (Mid School, you will have them first thing WEDNESDAY morning.)   Please remember that we do not do SAEBRs until October!

For those of you who have kids who are tested individually (1st, 2nd, 3rd), Crystal, Mandy, Bea, and Dani will touch base on testing. Kinder, you are off the hook til winter benchmarking.

HUGE thank you's go out to Mandy, Bea, and Crystal for working on data cards and test tickets, AND to Jen and Makala for jumping in as I was panicking on Thursday afternoon.

I worked with Brett and Mandy on the building schedule to make sure we have staff available for push-in support and tier 3 support. It is a work in progress and we will continue to fine tune it.

I will be working with various staff members to provide support and training on available resources.
