K8 Weekly Memo

Shared Strategy: TAB and TAB OUT

We have previously discussed the TAB strategies, and I see that several classrooms are using this strategy. Thank you for implementing TAB and helping maintain students in your learning environment.

Here's a quick reminder:

A Take a Break (TAB) is a designated area within the classroom where students can choose to take a break or be directed by the teacher to do so. During TAB time, students can still listen to instructions and follow along. TAB time should be limited to 3-5 minutes and should not disturb the rest of the class. After a student has taken their second TAB in a day, it is recommended that the teacher connects with them and invites them back to the learning group in the classroom.

Please collaborate with a partner teacher to establish a TAB Out location inside their classroom. When a student needs to take a break out of the classroom, they will be sent to their co-teacher's room for a 5-10 minute break. The purpose of a TAB Out is to help the student refocus and avoid serious disruption of the learning process. During this time, the student will need to complete a reflection sheet and return it to their classroom teacher.

Here is a link to a survey that will help me plan future presentations: Survey

Please let me know if you would like me to attend a conference for a specific student or provide progress monitoring data.

It was great to meet with several of you on our LID to look at progress monitoring data and discuss students. I know I didn't get to everyone but hope to have another opportunity in April!

Character Strong:

Elementary:

Highlight the community and common goals within your classrooms. This is a great opportunity to have students look for ways to support one another and cooperate in multiple places (the playground, classroom, lunch room, at home, etc.).

Middle School will review Lessons 26-29 this month.
