K8 Memo

 Happy Monday,

I hope that everyone enjoyed our beautiful fall weekend.  I appreciate everyone's help last week as we worked to fill our substitute needs.  Thank you for your flexibility. This week looks much better!

WINS FOR THE WEEK

  • FastBridge assessment is well underway!  Everyone seems to be doing a great job.

  • Our fire drill was completed in less than 10 minutes!

  • New Staff mentoring starting and regular meetings.

  • Nearly 50 students attended our last student access day.

  • District Leadership participated in two PLC workshops…AND we maintained staffing. :)

GOOD READ

It seems like much of my work with struggling students is behavior management that either punishes or rewards students for being compliant in our learning community.  How can we foster a sense of belonging with our most challenging students?  The book From Behaving to Belonging challenges teachers and principals to adopt a heartfelt approach of kindness, creativity, compassion, and love

.

THE CHARGER PROMISE

"We, as a community, will develop confident, well rounded, and sought after graduates who are prepared for the future"

POINTS OF INTEREST

Student Access Day

This last Friday, we had 47 K-8 students participate in our access day.  This Friday is our next Student Access Day.  Miss Toni will be joining the Student Access Team as our elementary teacher.  Please let me know if you are interested in coordinating a enrichment activity or field trip.

Coach Vince

Coach Vince will be on site Thursday morning for an MTSS team meeting and to make some instructional rounds through the school. Please welcome him in your classroom.

MTSS

Diane sent out an email update on Thursday (9/29) and also put a copy in teacher boxes.

MTSS updates

  • Testing is completed in most grades other than make ups and kindergarten.

  • You can now access reports to guide instructional decisions.

  • Once tier 2 supports are in place, I can flag those kids and identify a progress monitoring tool for them.

  • Please return headphones when done with them.

  • Let me know how I can help!  I would love to set a time with individual teachers to plan for strategies, groups, and progress monitoring.

Wellness Team Help - ACTION NEEDED

Macy Reynolds has joined our Wellness Team as the Springdale Coalition Coordinator.  The Springdale Coalition's goal is to provide prevention strategies and services in our community.  Please help our school and community by completing the state required Community Coalition Survey.

SEL

This thought was shared multiple times at the PBIS conference last spring. It is so important for us to remember how our actions impact our students. We must model what we expect them to do.
