K8 Weekly Memo

Good Tuesday Morning,

I hope that everyone enjoyed your long weekend.  It was wonderful to have some extra family time.  Remember, this Friday is a school day...we will be operating on our Monday schedule. Today we have two small interruptions:  high school basketball send-off to state and district-wide fire drill.

Points of Interest

High School Athletics: Boy Basketball off to State

Our high school wrestlers did a great job completing at state last week. Today, Tuesday, our high school Boys' basketball team is heading to Yakima for the first round of state. There will be a send-off for the team this morning. More information will come.

Coach Vince's Here Tomorrow

Please check your email for an email from Coach Vince. His goal is to meet with teachers for 20-30 minutes together to discuss your math planning, instruction, and student learning based on the mid-winter assessment data.

Regular Friday School Days

This Friday is a regular school day. Additionally, March 10th is our snow makeup day. Please make the needed adjustments in your planning and schedule.

Student Expectations

Thank you for the help with hallway access and phone use. Please continue to monitor our hallways and help our students to be safe, respectful, and responsible. Also, please use the hall pass when students are out of your classroom. The semester is a perfect time to review our PBIS rules and expectation posters.

District-Wide Fire Drill

Today we will be hosting a district-wide fire drill between 12:50 – 1:05 pm. Please review the following evacuation plan with your classes to prepare for the FIRE DRILL. Additionally, print a class set of rosters to be placed in your 'Crisis Backpack.'

3rd Quarter Progress Report

At the end of next week, March 2nd, please send home a classroom mid-quarter progress report to each student. I know we just mailed home report cards; however, we are working hard to share the message that student learning is our top priority.

Charger of the Month Assembly

Our next Charger of the Month Assembly will be March 2nd, grades K-2 @ 2:00 - 2:30 and grades 3-5 @ 2:30 - 3:00. Please be sure to get your Charger of the Month cards to Tammy. Also, be sure to reach out to families.

Student Teacher Opportunity

Are you interested in hosting a student teacher in your classroom? Some benefits of hosting a student teacher include: mentoring a new professional, observing new pedagogical techniques, building a new perspective on your classroom, and having another person to bounce ideas off.

Instructional Rounds

This week, as you work on your lesson plans and prepare for each day, please think about how you break down content into small "digestible bites."  As I complete instructional rounds, I will look for evidence of lesson segments.  The workshop model is an instructional practice that consists of three lesson segments: a mini-lesson, a workshop, and a debrief.   The format that I utilized included an entry task, lesson, independent work time, and exit ticket.  What is your lesson routine?  Please be sure to have your lesson segments outlined on your whiteboard or in your lesson planning book.

Here is the supportive element from the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model:
