K8 Weekly Memo

Thank you for everyone's hard work and dedication last week. Being out of the building for four days was hard...well, three with the snow day!

The conference provided access to world-renowned educational leaders and PLC experts. I truly enjoyed hearing from Mike Mattos, who specializes in uniting teachers, administrators, and support staff to transform schools by implementing responses to intervention through PLC teams. Additionally, I enjoyed hearing from Luis Cruz and  Anthony Muhammad!

One of my highlights of the conference was connecting with other PLC teams to see and hear the work they have accomplished this year. It was exciting to share our progress and artifacts with other teams. I had one district leader from New York request access to our formatting and examples. Good job, team!

Our district is progressing exceptionally well. I am excited about the journey and outcomes that we will see in the future. Our hard work is paying off!

Points of Interest

Classroom Discpline Minors vs Majors

How are you handling the minor referrals in your classroom?  Please make sure parent contact is being made and that you have consistent and clear classroom consequences. Below is our chart of classroom vs office-managed behaviors. Our Springdale K8 PBIS page has more resources.

Student Expectations

Thank you for the help with hallway access and phone use. Please continue to monitor our hallways and help our students to be safe, respectful, and responsible. Also, please use the hall pass when students are out of your classroom. The semester is a perfect time to review our PBIS rules and expectation posters.

Snow Makeup Day

Friday, March 10th is another regular Friday! This is a snow makeup day!

MTSS Update

Our MTSS Roundtable Team, (Diane, Brett, Jewelle, Rebecca, Summer) meets every two weeks to discuss students of concern and create a support plan with progress monitoring. We have met regarding three students and have follow up meetings scheduled to see how effective the plans were and if changes need to be made. If you have a student you are concerned about, there is a pre referral form to complete and a form for parents as well.  Once the pre referral is received we will put the student on our calendar.

MTSS Roundtable Process

On Friday Coach Stephanie will be here to work with Diane from 9:00-1:00.

Student Teacher Opportunity

Are you interested in hosting a student teacher in your classroom? Some benefits of hosting a student teacher include: mentoring a new professional, observing new pedagogical techniques, building a new perspective on your classroom, and having another person to bounce ideas off.

SBAC Resources

State testing is just around the corner. I will be sharing out our testing calendar and protector training day next week.   Remember, 5th and 8th grades are required to take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS), and students in grades 3-8 will take the Smarter Balanced ELA and math assessments.

Please review your grade and subject blueprint to familiarize yourself with the priority and supporting clusters.

Positive Self Talk

As a coach, I would always built a positive self-talk routine into our daily stretching.  I reminded students that PST improves an athlete's performance by building confidence and centering one's emotions with calmness and relaxation.

How is your positive self-talk in school and in your classroom?  Positive self-talk will help us be better teachers, improve learning for all students and make great academic growth.
