K8 Weekly Memo

Springdale water and sewer system update:  The city water is safe for use and consumption. There is a scheduled shutdown on Tuesday to make needed repairs. This morning the district office's priority is to work out plans for Tuesday. More information will be shared once the details are worked out.

Good Reads: Equity and Equality

As we send our students on the ABC field trips, several students stay back because they failed to achieve the goal. However, some students who missed the goals can still attend due to extenuating circumstances and/or concerns.

Treating everyone equally is different from achieving equity. As a school, we need to recognize that each person has substantially different circumstances, and we need to make decisions and allocate resources and opportunities to help reach more equal outcomes.

I will be connecting with you regarding some students attending the field trip today. In our conversations, please consider equity and equality.

Points of Interest

8 Days Left

Not that any of us are counting, but we have only 8 days left in this school year.  Let's make the most of our last few days.  Please find ways to celebrate your students…encourage and praise them for their hard work.

6th Grade Outdoor School, Wed-Friday

This week the 6th-grade class will host classes up at Camp Gifford on Deer Lake for a two-night camp.  The theme of this camp is 'Your Choices, Your Future.' These students will participate in leadership challenges, develop environmental skills, and build a great appreciation for the outdoors.  Classes include archery, paddling, plant identification, goal setting, GPS/compass, geocaching, outdoor cooking, crafts, and more!  I will be in and out of the building on Wednesday and Thursday, as much of my time will be spent up at camp.

8th Grade Promotion

Next Tuesday, June 13th is our 8th Grade promotion at 7 PM.  We are looking for photos of this group of students for the slide show.  Please share any photos that you may have from when they were in your class.  Thank you.

Kindergarten Graduation

Our Kindergarten students will be having their graduation on June 13th at 1:30 PM.  These little ones will be practicing this week to get ready for their big day.

ABC Field Trip: ACTION NEEDED

Have you made your family contact for those not attending the ABC field trip?  I received calls from several families who did not.

Evaluation Meetings

I got halfway through my evaluation meetings last week.  I enjoyed connecting with staff, reviewing data and discussing placements for next year!   This week is exceptionally busy with field trips and camps.  I will be connecting with many of you today, but will need to use some time next week too!

PLC Summer Jump Start: Unit Planning Workshop

It is exciting to see the two planning workshops come together.  We are looking at the second week of July.  This is going to be time to work on planning out your units of study using the 15-Day Challenge format.  The admin team will be working to provide a guiding resource for your work.

FastBridge Assessment Schedule

We continue our k-3 FastBridge make-up and SEL assessments this week.  Please see Diane's MTSS note below.

Character Strong/Purposeful People

Please continue to do your weekly Character Strong/Purposeful People lessons.

Kindergarten and Pre-School Registration

Please encourage families with little ones to register their kindergarten and pre-school students.

MTSS Update

MTSS Roundtable Process

Please check to make sure that all FastBridge testing is completed ASAP; this includes SAEBRs (K-8) and mySAEBRs (2-8). Thank you Sidney for getting all of it done last week!

Due to issues getting subs, Brett and I determined that K-5 PLC time on June 8 will be devoted to looking at FastBridge data. For next year, data review days will be locked in early to ensure they can take place. Middle school teachers, I will get your data cards to you for your homeroom classes.

A great source of leveled reading materials can be found at https://www.readworks.org/. Their resources are free and suitable for classroom or home use. They can be searched by content area, reading level, grade level, and topic of interest.
