Good morning, Chargers!
Daylight saving time has arrived, and while we may be feeling the effects of losing an hour, it also means longer, brighter days ahead—a welcome sign that spring is near!
As we move through this busy season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued dedication to our students. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and the impact you make each day is truly inspiring.
Let's keep the momentum going and support one another as we navigate the week ahead. You've got this!
Pi Night Pushed Back to Math Bingo Night
Our Pi Night has been rescheduled as Math BINGO Night on March 27th, the final evening of Parent-Teacher Conferences. This school-wide event will feature dinner, BINGO, math challenges, and more! Please include the attached graphic in your weekly memo to help spread the word. We look forward to a fun-filled evening of math and family engagement!
WSU School of Medicine Mentor Program
Our 7th grade team will begin joining Chewelah, Wellpinit and Valley on March 18th for a campus tour with hands-on Lab Activities on March 18.
K8 Conferences - (Action Needed)
Our K-8 Conferences are coming up on March 26th and 27th! Since our LID day falls on the Friday before, we are making a change to how conferences are scheduled this year.
Instead of our usual in-person round-robin scheduling, we will be shifting to an online scheduling system. Stay tuned for a detailed email with instructions on how to sign up.
Thank you for your flexibility—we appreciate your support in making conferences smooth and successful!
Solution Room – Keeping Students Engaged - (Action Needed)
To ensure students remain engaged while in the Solution Room, please provide meaningful academic work for them to complete. While this adds an extra step, it helps maintain a productive learning environment. Suggested materials include:
An unread passage from the Wonders curriculum
Extra math practice from the IL workbooks
A writing prompt to reinforce short responses or narrative writing
Your support in keeping this space academically focused is greatly appreciated!
Interim Smarter Balanced Assessment - (Action Needed)
Over the next two weeks, all 3rd-8th grade students must complete the Interim Smarter Balanced assessments in ELA and Math. These assessments:
Help track student progress and identify areas for support
Allow teachers to adjust instruction before the summative assessment
Give students valuable practice, reducing stress for the final test
Access the Interim Assessment: Smarter Balanced Portal
Use Released Items for Entry Tasks: Sample Questions
Thank you for your commitment to student success!
PLC - (Action Needed)
We are now in year three of building our PLC foundation, and it has been an amazing journey! The progress we’ve made has provided a strong framework for collaboration and student success.
Over the next few weeks, we will be conducting a K-8 audit of our PLC work. The goal is to assess our artifacts and evidence, focusing on identified essential standards, pacing guides, and units of study.
Please take some time this week to review your PLC documents and ensure they are up to date. Remember, these are living documents—continuously revised and refined to meet the needs of our students.
Thank you for your commitment to this important work!
PBIS Team Meeting is on this Thursday, 3/13 from 3:45-5:15. All staff need to complete the SAS Assessment that Matt sent out after our last LID Day. We really need this feedback to make plans for next year’s PBIS roll-out. This week’s meeting will cover family and community engagement.
Behavior Academies and other social skills groups are continuing. If a K-5 group doesn’t work with your classroom lesson times, please let Kristyn know. It’s hard to find a good time without using recess or lunch.
The Boy Who Cried Bigfoot classroom visits. K-5, please look for a Google form sign-up for a spot over the next few weeks! We’ll talk about honesty and trusting what people say.
It’s so nice to have Kristi back! We definitely missed her when she was gone!
Just a few shout outs from last week:
We worked at creating a progress monitoring form for the PAST Assessment and that has been shared out with the K-1 team. The kids are really showing amazing growth! Hopefully on Tuesday morning we can review that data and bump kids up that are ready for the next skill to master!
Thank you Third Grade Team for sharing your latest Math Unit Assessment to go over with small groups of your kids. Helping them to continue working on these skills will help prepare them for the upcoming SBAC.
Fifth Graders have been making incredible progress in their math computation skills! The progress monitoring tool is definitely helping to group them each week for focused instruction.
It’s so amazing to watch these students grow and learn and we LOVE being a part of it!
I will be out Wednesday for a Math Fluency Class, so I will not be picking up any of my groups.
Have a great week everyone!
